The Class Code

What the 6-digit code is, where to find it, how the student uses it, and what to do when they say the code isn't working.

Every class is born with a unique 6-digit numeric code in Nivo. It's the simplest way for a student to join: they type the code and they're in.

Where you see the code

Open the class, go to the Students tab, click Add student and choose Show class code. The modal shows the digits spaced out, to read aloud, and a Copy button.

How the student joins

  1. They log into their account with the Student profile.
  2. On the dashboard, they click Join a class.
  3. They type the 6 digits in Class code and click Join class.

They can type with spaces — Nivo cleans it before checking. Enrollment is immediate: they land right on the class wall.

When it doesn't work

The messages are specific and help diagnose the problem:

  • "Invalid class code. Check and try again." — the code is wrong. Check if they didn't confuse 0 with O or 1 with I: the code is only numbers.
  • "You are already in this class." — nothing to do, they're already enrolled.
  • "This class is archived right now." — unarchive the class in Settings and ask them to try again.
  • If the student's account is set to teacher profile, Nivo refuses entry. They need to change to Student in Settings → Profile Type.

All three lead to the same place. Choose by context:

  • Code — when you're in front of the class and can read it aloud.
  • Invite link — when you send via WhatsApp, email, or your school platform.
  • QR code — when you want to project it on the screen and everyone points their phone.

Tip: the code doesn't change. Write it down in your class material once and reuse it for every new enrollment of the semester.
