Units and Class Content

How to organize the class into units, what types of content fit in each, and how to move, archive, and reorder items.

Updated on

A class without units is just a list of items. With units, it becomes a curriculum: Unit 1, Unit 2, or Week 1, Week 2 — whatever you prefer.

Create a unit

  1. Open the class and use the Add Content menu.
  2. In Structure, click New Unit.
  3. Give it a title (required) and, if you want, a description.

Units stay in the order you set. Use Move up and Move down to reorder.

What fits inside

From the Add Content menu, in Content, you can add:

  • AI Activity — an exercise you built in Nivo.
  • YouTube Video — a video link, which appears with the content.
  • You can also publish Text and External Link as class items.

Each item can be inside a unit or in the class root, outside any unit. The same exercise can't be added twice in the same place.

Move and arrange

In each item's menu:

  • Move to… — takes the item to another unit.
  • Remove from unit — the item stays in the class, just outside the unit.
  • Remove from class — takes the item away (the exercise itself still exists in your exercises list).
  • Move up / Move down — changes the order.

Units can also be archived — they leave the class view without deleting anything — or deleted, and in that case the deletion can't be undone.

Tip: keep only permanent things in the class root (the course plan, the virtual classroom link) and put everything else in units. The student opens the class and understands the path.

Note: removing an item from the class doesn't delete the exercise or already-submitted responses. Results stay in Student Results, inside the exercise.
